Two men rescued after diving incident in Bondi Beach
Two men have been rescued from the cliff after calling for help at Ben Buckler following a diving incident at Bondi Beach at 8.00pm this evening.
The men had been diving off the rocks on the north side of Bondi Beach before they got into difficulty and were taken out to sea by strong rip currents.
They dropped the majority of their diving equipment and made their way to the rocky coastline fighting the heavy surf around 200 metres north of Ben Buckler.
A woman who was along the cliff face heard their screams for help and notified emergency services.
Local Police, Police Rescue, Surf Life Saving, Ambulance and the Ambulance rescue helicopter responded to the cliff ledge.
Police made their way around the rocks and cliff edge to rescue one of the men.
Due to the positioning, heavy surf and inaccessibly the other diver needed rescuing by the Ambulance helicopter.
The pilot said it was a challenging rescue being so close to the cliff and needing to winch the paramedic using a large section of the cable.
At around 8.45pm the diver and helicopter landed at Bondi Golf Course and the man was assessed by NSW Ambulance.
Both men thanked all emergency services for coming to their aid.
The man who was rescued by the helicopter was taken to hospital with minor foot lacerations and preventive care.
