Car drives off cliff in Dover Heights leaving one dead

Just before 11.00pm emergency services responded to reports that car had driven off a cliff at speed on Liverpool St in Dover Heights.

Police and Ambulance arrived at Raleigh Reserve shortly after being contacted by nearby residents.

Special Operations Paramedics, the Medical Rescue Helicopter, Water Police, Police Rescue and Fire & Rescue NSW attended to support local paramedics and police.

Police sighted a car at the base of the 70+ metre cliff.

A single responder from the medical retrieval helicopter winched down to assess if any occupants were inside the car. The helicopter hovered metres away from the cliff face during the delicate winching operation.

A single occupant was located deceased and trapped inside the car.

Retrieval of the body will be undertaken later today in what will likely be a challenging operation as the person remains trapped within the crushed vehicle.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have said in a statement to the Daily Mail the reasons behind the crash are not suspicious.
Daily Mail reported the death as Bachelorette star, Charlie Newling. He was aged 36.
